E2detroit 2008 entrepreneurship & excellence symposium presented by Wayne State University

Unrivalled in its quality and scope, the E2detroit Symposium gathers forward-thinking entrepreneurs and corporate innovators to address the latest trends and developments impacting their ability to develop new and reinvigorate existing ventures. In an ever-changing global economy, entrepreneurial thought and action is critical to maximizing innovation, improving economic vitality and propelling organizational growth. It is in equipping the entrepreneurial community with the vital tools and techniques to achieve such results that the E2detroit Symposium is dedicated.

The E2detroit Executive Program is custom designed to provide each attending executive a tailored experience – one that offers valuable insight, strategic methods and tactical solutions that are reflective of their specific stages of development and organizational size and structure. It is through the two-tracks of 'New Business/Early Stages' and 'Progressive Small Business/Advanced Stages' - that said experience will be afforded. The Executive Program Keynotes will address the parallel issues faced by all while offering best-practice strategies and methodologies for overcoming those challenges from some of the industry's most successful entrepreneurs.

In an effort to uphold the highest standards of corporate/organizational responsibility, E2detroit is committed to building awareness of the power of the Midwest Region and bolstering the economy of the State of Michigan through establishing it as a primary hub for enterprise. Additionally, in an effort to help keep Michigan's valuable college graduates in the State, E2detroit features the one-of-a-kind E2adventure - a reality-based, "The Apprentice"-like competition that provides graduate students valuable insight into critical factors needed to successfully enter into the marketplace with a competitive idea.

Calling All Graduate Students!
E2adventure 2008: Your Opportunity to Shape Your Future

E2adventure is an exciting, experiential opportunity for students to test out their entrepreneurial competence in the real world. Faculty and students work closely with seasoned experts to transform an idea into a product or service offering, formulate and implement a business plan and validate the market acceptance. This reality-based business encounter provides insight into the importance of a creative and collaborative management team, experienced leadership and copious amounts of faith and mettle.

Over the course of the day, five teams consisting of one faculty member, one venture capitalist mentor and three business school students, with representation from management, entrepreneurship and marketing classes, will compete and take home true-to-life experience.

Each team receives $100 seed money to create a product/service and marketing campaign and execute the plan on the Wayne State University campus. In addition, they will control a budget of "virtual dollars" to purchase prime booth space, advertising and other marketing tools for on-campus use. The budget constraints will force the teams to examine the importance and identify the right mix of marketing, advertising and product placement in the development of their product or service.

On day two, the E2adventure teams will be evaluated on the number of business units sold and other key criteria by an expert panel of judges. E2detroit will award valuable prizes to the winning students and reward the winning faculty member with a research grant.

The winning team will be selected based on the following priorities:

  • Priority 1: Innovation: creativity and marketability
  • Priority 2: Return on Investment: this is what its all about, making money for your investors
  • Priority 3: Business Plan: 1-2 page description of your plan which also outlines what you did which was novel or unique
  • Priority 4: Leadership and team culture: survey of team members and judges consensus on culture, motivation level, enthusiasm, etc.

Graduate students interested in participating in E2adventure 2008 should contact: registration@e2detroit.com.
